I'd also have a navigator at the helm to tell them where to point the telescope, how much magnification to use, and then find out the details of the object - which may be Jupiter, Venus, the Orion nebula, or wherever I wish to see at night from a science officer (preferably Vulcan). It would be just like in the movies, and I'd be giving the commands from the captain's chair!
